The Return of A Used Book Store to West Maui

Who didn’t love JoAnne Carroll’s Old Lahaina Book Emporium when it was operating just off Front Street? And who didn’t love the used book store location prior to that at 505 and even before that at The Wharf Cinema Center?

Yeah, okay, so I follow used book stores and those like it everywhere until they move or close. Well guess what?

The Maui Friends of the Library (MFOL) have come forward and started a new store effective yesterday, Nov. 2nd again at The Wharf Cinema Center on Maui’s west side. It is their second location, says President Dorothy Tolliver, the first being located on Puunene in Kahului.

MFOL is looking for volunteers to work in 4-hour shifts. Store hours are Mon-Sat 10 am – 6 pm and will be closed on major holidays.

All book proceeds will fund scholarships, keiki programs, and Maui library requests to help cover budgetary losses.

Please contact JoAnne Carroll at 269-3429 or by e-mail at maui4books@yahoo.com. For more information go to www.mfol.org. (Article source Lahaina News, Nov. 3, 2011, pg. 3)

It’s wonderful (and high time) that a used book store is opening in Lahaina. Will they be accepting donations?
